Sheltered under the 2 enormous Brazilian Pepper trees, stood a guest cottage which soon found its way into the Guest House holiday accommodation portfolio of the Hermanus Tourism Bureau, a portfolio which was steadily growing to meet the influx of foreign visitors after South Africa gained its democracy. Due to her divorce in 1997, owner, Jenny Bowes Meyer decided to subdivide and sell no Sadly this portion included the lawn and original guest cottage, but Jenny kept the main dwelling with its outbuilding (double garage) that had a very characterful roof structure and lent itself to restoration. Renovated, this became known as the present Garden Cottage and Jenny welcomed the first guests on the eve of the Whale Festival that September. During the years that followed and driven by success, The Courtyard and Loft were added and then very recently the Rose Room was added to the portfolio. Eastbury Cottage has found its niche in the tourism and hospitality trade of Hermanus and assures it’s guests a comfortable and relaxing stay. Jenny, now recently married to retired Master Mariner, Captain Graham Fenn of Cape Town, has handed over the managing of Eastbury Cottage in its entirety to a very capable, Jenny Curtis. Owner, Jenny, continues to do the marketing for the guest house and will hold the reigns while Jenny Curtis takes her hard earned holiday breaks. Jenny will be taking over from Storm who has been with us for 5 years. Jenny is no stranger to Hermanus, having lived here previously and was one of the founder members of the Berghof School in Onrus. Jenny has been away from Hermanus for a number of years and was a carer for an elderly lady in Somerset West for the past 4 years. We are most fortunate that Jenny has chosen Eastbury Cottage as her future home and occupation as our manager. We wish her happiness and we are sure that she is going to be a wonderful asset, not only to the Hermanus community, but especially to Eastbury Cottage, our guest house in Hermanus! Pretty, a bit shy, but with a disarming smile, is very thorough and makes sure the guests a treated to spotless accommodation. Vivian has a bright personality and can be seen enthusiastically whizzing around from unit to unit getting her tasks done. He is a blessing to Eastbury Cottage and never fails to impress Jenny with his willingness and skills in repairing, restoring and maintaining the buildings, furniture and garden. Day Trip Hermanus to Stanford Founded in 1857 and named after Sir Richard Stanford, Stanford is a lovely, unspoilt little village with an atmosphere of yester-year! Hermanus Day Trip to Bot River Another quaint place to visit is the little hamlet known as Botrivier or Bot River.
