Bed and Breakfast in Hermanus, Lodge in Hermanus

Hermanus town is known for it’s excellent facilities and diversity when it comes to sports, activities, adventures, wine farms, eateries and entertainment. A vibey town by night and beach dwellers delight by day, Hermanus has to be one of the most ideal family and weekend getaway destinations all year round. Known for it’s fantastic swimming, calm surf and cleanliness. You cannot possibly stay in Hermanus for less than two to three days! It’s impossible to absorb, do and see everything that the town has to offer in less time. Great White Shark Cage Diving is an incredible experience, whether you remain on the deck of the shark diving vessel or jump into the shark diving cage, it is an adventure that must be experienced to truly understand the wonder of these incredible predators. Unless you’ve experienced a Shark Cage Diving Trip, you cannot fully understand the importance of the Great White Shark to the natural course of the Ocean. Great White Sharks have been resident just off the shores of Hermanus for much longer than humans have been resident here. The Great White Shark is mainly resident just off the coast of Gansbaai, a small town a half hour journey from the now vibey seaside town of Hermanus, once a fishing village. Great White Sharks are an extremely controversial subject around the world as the lovers of the ocean strive to protect them, yet the lovers of beach activities, surfers and body boarders’ main concern is to protect themselves (understandably). The Great White Shark’s residence is the ocean, when humans enter the ocean, they place themselves at the mercy of all oceanic residents. The Great White Shark has limited eye sight and it’s main form of sense is movement and sound waves. The Great White Shark senses even a heart beat in the ocean and will investigate, since the shark has no hands, it’s only means of investigation is it’s mouth. Hermanus and Gansbaai in the Western Cape of South Africa is home to a number of Shark Cage diving companies who started out with the intention of educating the general public to these facts. The Great White Shark Cage diving industry has grown from one operator in 1992 to nine operators in These Shark Cage diving operators are heavily involved in the protection of Great White Sharks and the education of the public as to the necessity to protect these oceanic predators. The Great White Shark’s main food source is the seal, in South Africa, the Cape Fur Seal. Dyer Island in Gansbaai is a protected marine area for the Cape Fur Seal, offering a large, uninhibited natural food source for the Great White Shark. Should the great white shark become extinct, the Cape Fur seal population would grow to unimaginable levels which would severely impact the natural cycle of the ocean. In order for us humans to begin to take care of our world, preserving all that our earth holds, we need to be educated by those who are most passionate and knowledgeable in their chosen field of nature. We, as a human race must support these eco-tourism operations in order to sustain our earth and to educate ourselves & our children. Protecting our earth, preserving what nature has provided us means educating ourselves and all those we encounter through entertainment and adventure!
